The lack of proper 'parties' is killing the vibe

In today’s cluttered London soundscape, events to attend are plentiful. Many offer an incredible curation and experience but are there any real ‘parties’ anymore?

Hear me out.

Back in the 90’s when the scene peaked, it was bubbling with events that gained notoriety through a very simple formula. The crowd knew what to expect and followed en-masse to get a small slice of the infectious vibe on offer. They trusted the event to educate them in sound and give them a memory or two to live long in the raving mind.

Sure, then bean-dropping was rife, and the quality of the little wonders was substantially better than today’s monstrosity experiments, but it was a safe haven to get wobbly and party.

If you were rolling into a club, you were smartly dressed, there was a policy. People had respect for the dancefloor. Smiley faces surrounded you with people wanting to share their happiness.

On the outdoor circuit, outfits weren’t selected, they were thrown on with the addition of a bucket hat and glow stick pack. Areas were not roped off for VIP’s. People were there for one reason only. To dance.

Much has changed. Today’s modern format is based around filming every drop, people blinding you with super-strong phone flashes and not respecting personal space. The energy and ‘in the moment’ feel have been lost. Areas are added for those who pay more and buy their magnums of over-priced vodka. Let’s be honest, what a load of boll**s.

DJs are now booked on their social media followings and ticket selling ability. Events have ‘tiered ticket’ strategies in order to draw a crowd in. This comes with a flaw. The ‘earlybird’ tickets at a fiver seem attractive but with only 50 released, it’s a great chance to show that they have ‘sold out’ and create demand for their ‘final release’ tier priced at eye-watering amounts.

At STiR, we do things differently. We want our followers to trust us musically. We want our ravers to be a community of people that just want to ‘party’ and immerse themselves in a curation of wonderfully gifted artists.

Cutting the fluff and BS out of our promotion by implementing a single tier ticket price, selecting our line up solely based on our sound and musicality flow. Offering extended set lengths to build a complete journey.

None of this 1-hour set type. No marketing gumph or greed. We are taking things back to roots and throwing a real party.

Let’s get back to the old skool formula that was adored and respected. Let’s cause a STiR!
